YAY! Our office is finally finished and I couldn’t be more excited. For a long time, this space has been the place where we store all the crap we aren’t sure what to deal with. There were strollers, brooms, random boxes, and all sorts of toys we had to keep out of reach of our kids in here. It’s definitely still a place where I keep things hidden from C and also everyone else.
Before we cleaned it out, I was doing a lot of my computer work at the kitchen counter. However, our kitchen is often messy during the day with constant traffic through our house and I can’t work effectively in a disorganized space. I’m proud to say that The Autumn Girl isn’t just a space for creative thinking but also a little side hustle JOB for me! I actually have deadlines, emails, projects and consistent to-do’s to keep this thing running. I’m so happy about it!
Anyway, that wasn’t the catalyst for our office makeover but having a great space to actually work makes me much more productive!
The first change we made was adding shiplap to this room. We also did it in our living room but that area will take a lot more time and energy to become what I want to be so we’re saving that for later. Once the shiplap was installed, we realized we needed a nice paint color to go with our rug and pull some of those blues. Per help of some friends’ opinions, we settled on a color: Stardew by Sherwin Williams. And it turned out PERFECT!
I was a little overwhelmed what to do with the walls though. Personally I believe you should only buy art if you truly love it and it makes you feel something. If you buy it just to fill space, you often will get sick of it or maybe not love it later on. If you’re not spending that much on it, I get getting something in the meantime. But I really hate wasting $! My friend Jill recommended getting a mirror. If you’re ever wondering what you can put in a room to make it feel bigger, add a mirror! We also added a gallery wall to the shiplap. I’m still toying around with it and it didn’t photograph well, but I really love the photos we framed and look forward to adding more!
Our couch is the first piece of furniture Eric and I bought together and though it represents a special time for us, it’s definitely aged! Especially by our dogs who know how to break into the office and love laying on the TOP cushions… Eventually we plan to replace it and get some better pillows but right now, the space just feels right.
I showed you lots of updates on IG and here is the final product! Oh- our mirror is Ballard Designs and our gallery wall frames are Target :)
