Our Couple’s Trip to Santa Fe!

10.02.2019

Our first couples trip since having kids was a success! You may remember that Eric and I visited Santa Fe for our first anniversary and we were stoked to go back and show friends one of our favorite cities in the country.

City feels like a stretch. I should say town. It’s a quaint village of touristy shops, beautiful pueblos and adobe walls, delicious food and drink, and of course, a place to discover ART!  We visited some of the same places we went for our anniversary but had fun exploring many more!

We also upgraded to a beautiful hotel this time. We stayed at Hilton on the Plaza  instead of the teeny airbnb we had on our first trip. The hotel was great and I highly recommend staying there or at Hotel Fonda! It was walking distance to everything and has a great pool if you have downtime and want to sit and relax. We had a short 48 hour trip so we skipped the pool and instead walked all over town.

Here are our recs for a great weekend getaway with friends in Santa Fe!

EATS:

Palacio Cafe– great lunch spot! Unassuming, right off the plaza, and has delicious enchiladas.

Cafe Pasqual– this is a MUST if you visit! Get there early because you will have to wait. We ate breakfast there two days in a row because the food and atmosphere is so good.

The Compound– great restaurant located on Canyon Road! Incredible cocktails and the best homemade bread!

La Plazuela at La Fonda- we actually only had drinks here but this is a famous spot in Santa Fe with a gorgeous dining area! We sipped rosé and enjoyed chips and salsa but next time will go back for a full meal :)

Geronimo– this is another restaurant located on Canyon Road. They have unbelievable cocktails and incredible food. You must make a reservation way in advance! It’s pretty fancy and a bit pricey- just fyi!

DRINKS:

El Farol– Get the margaritas!

La Fonda– go to the rooftop and get there early! The views of the city are stunning.

Dragon Room– we missed it this time but we visited previously and it was a neat spot! :)

THINGS TO DO:

We did a ton of walking and made our trip very simple. It was all about proximity to the plaza for us! However, there are so many things you can do in and nearby Santa Fe.

Walk Canyon Road and explore the art galleries!

Hike!

Meow Wolf– this is something we didn’t get a chance to do but heard was really neat. It’s an interactive art museum.

Ski (Taos isn’t too far away and has some really intense skiing if you’re a seasoned skier)Georgia O’Keefe museum – it’s super close the plaza and a place we explored on our previous trip! I love her art

Cathedral Basilica- gorgeous Church just east of the plaza which was constructed in 1869! It’s fun to walk in and get a little history

Get Christmas ornaments- there are a few Christmas shops in town and they have some fun ornaments! We picked up a few as it’s tradition to take one home from each of our trips!

Explore all the local artists- so many are selling their jewelry on the street in the plaza! If you can find a piece you love and the price is right, the turquoise jewelry is exquisite

Eat, drink, and be merry! We spent our entire trip doing just this and it was a total blast.

Have you been to Santa Fe?! It’s the best!
