Moms on Call with Bumble Baby: A Review

04.28.2019

When I agreed to try out Moms on Call with Kate from Bumble Baby, I was a bit reluctant and nervous. Not because I didn’t want to sleep really bad. But because this method was different than what I did before and would put me a bit out of my comfort zone. My first baby was a good sleeper so I thought I’d know what to do. But she mentioned something about getting my kids on the same napping schedule and I had no idea how I would go about doing that so I was sold. Within the first week of practicing Moms on Call, I was able to get the kids down for a nap at the same time and it was crazy amazing! I seriously couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t set Charlie down for more than a few minutes at that age!

Are you familiar with Moms on Call? It’s a sleep training method that can begin with babies as early as 2 weeks. It sounds kind of crazy to think about ‘training’ your baby at 2 weeks but I figured I’d give it a try because all that I had to do in those early weeks was get on a great feeding schedule. Moms on Call advocates getting your baby in the crib immediately. McKenna’s room is the furthest room from our bedroom and for that reason only, I chose to wait to have her sleep up there at night. I figured if I was getting up every few hours, I didn’t want to have to get up the stairs. However, I decided nap time in the crib was something I would just figure out right away and I did.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s start with Kate and her business Bumble Baby. Kate is a sleep consultant, NICU Nurse, certified CPR instructor, and mom of a toddler and baby. She couldn’t have better accolades for someone looking to help people with their new babies. Ironically, Kate and I found each other through Instagram even though we actually graduated from the same college the same year. Small world.

On her website, Kate shares tips for breastfeeding, sleeping, toddler meals, toys, purchasing car seats, and all things you could think of baby related. Her instagram @bumble.baby is full of highlight reels where she shares in-person videos of her tips. I highly recommend anyone with a small child to follow her immediately!

I remember when Charlie was about three months old, I had a little bit of a breakdown. I wasn’t sure if what I was doing with him was right or if there would ever be a time when I thought I had it figured out but what I realized is that I wished that babies came with a manual. That would make things so much easier, right? He started sleeping through the night at 4 months and I felt like a champion, but I had so many moments prior where I wished I had a person talking me through everything.

Enter, Kate! If only I had known about her when I had C! Charlie started sleeping 9-4 at about 4 months and McKenna has been doing that since 5 weeks!

You guys. This has been life changing for me. McKenna is 10 weeks old and has already had several nights of 10+ hours of sleep! We do have the occasional night where she wakes more often and it definitely took some practice to get that MOC swaddle figured out and for her to nap in her crib. But I worked really hard at it even though I was exhausted and it paid off! I followed the method pretty closely but there were a few days where I enjoyed her napping on my chest. I also missed her when I moved her out of our room! But overall, I’ve felt like I could be an energetic mom for both kids because I’ve gotten more sleep than I ever imagined at this point!

I will be sharing an update in a few months (because I know that sleep changes with babies and I’m sure there will be some regressions, etc), but for now, I wanted to share Bumble Baby with you and hope you reach out to Kate if you’re in need of some sleep consulting and basic infant care training! Or if you’re looking for the PERFECT gift to give a new mama.

If you’re in the city of Chicago, she offers an in home consultation. If you’re in another state like I am, you can do a Facetime/Phone consult followed by email correspondence. She also offers breastfeeding help and CPR classes for those local to Chicago! Make sure to email her for more information at bumblebabychicago@gmail.com!

I have already heard from a few of you that you are working with Kate and your baby is SLEEPING! I’m so thrilled for you! Please feel free to share your experiences in the comments or reach out to me with questions! Having a baby is such a crazy wonderful life changing experience and I’m so glad we have a community of women to turn to for support :) Thank you for reading!

Yes!! Kate helped get our baby girl to sleep through the night when she was 16 weeks old. She’s been sleeping 715-7 ever since! It has made the transition of going back to my job as a lawyer SO much easier because I’m well- rested, she’s thriving, and our nanny is having success implementing the MOC schedule at home during the day while I’m at work!

Hello Meg! Thank you for the helpful information as we begin MOC. I have one question – If you get to the end of the third round of soothing and your baby is still fussing, I know it says to feed them. But what if they are no where near time to feed? For example, we put her to bed at 9 but she is already through the 3 rounds of soothing by 10 and it’s not time for her to eat for another couple hours. What would you suggest we do? Thank you! – Anna
