Bloomlife Contraction Monitor: A Review

02.20.2019

I will never get over how incredible the human body is. The fact that it knows exactly when and how to deliver a baby and practices beforehand is truly incredible. This pregnancy I started using the Bloomlife Pregnancy Tracker at 35 weeks and was amazed by the activity going on in my uterus. I walked a TON in my first pregnancy and was extremely active and remember having Braxton Hicks frequently while out on the trail.

Through my second pregnancy I got exercise by chasing around a young toddler and that cramping started even earlier. While Bloom Life does not replace the care of any doctor or midwife, I was excited to start using it at home as it is the only clinically validated wearable contraction monitor! I was eager to see in real time: the frequency, duration & intervals of my contractions and give myself a little peace of mind that the real deal hadn’t quite started yet.

I’m the type that LOVES reading all the pregnancy apps and follow the development of baby from day #1 so having another tool (a totally different type of one!) was wonderful! I’d put my feet up, watch a movie, and check in with the app.

So how does it work? The Bloomlife tracker is SO user friendly you guys. It comes with a sensor, reusable patches, and simple instructions to download their APP.  Simply insert the sensor into the patch, remove the adhesive from the plastic, and place the sensor three fingers width below your belly button! Put your feet up. You will want to be sitting or laying down for at least an hour to measure correctly.

The sensor will connect to bluetooth on your phone and when you open the app, it will be begin calibrating. You can watch in real time contractions happening as you feel them and after an hour, save the data. The interesting part about using this tracker was realizing how often I was having contractions that I couldn’t even feel! The sensor is super sensitive and picks up on every moment. It makes you realize how much practice your body is doing to prepare for labor.

This monitor is completely safe to use and does not send any energy into the body. It is recommended to start using it 6-8 weeks before your due date! Many women use it as part of their nightly routine or when they want to monitor contractions more closely.

In the last week of my pregnancy, I may or may not have become completely obsessed with this monitor. I’d wear it 3x a day (nap time, watching a movie after dinner, and to bed!). My body was most active while I was sleeping. During my first pregnancy, I woke up crampy one morning and started having contractions that evening and went into labor! This pregnancy I felt consistent cramping and regular contractions every night in the last few weeks so it was super confusing! I kept thinking my experience would be the same but it wasn’t at all. Having the monitor to look at while feeling these contractions helped me realize it wasn’t quite time to go to the hospital. Disclaimer- this monitor does NOT tell you when to go to the hospital! It is very motion sensitive and since most women don’t sit still while in labor, it is more useful as a second opinion! I was induced but I used it daily leading up to birth.

Bloomlife is not expensive and only costs $20 a week for a rental!  It was seriously SUCH a fun tool to have and I wished I had had it during my first pregnancy too so I could compare. You can use code MEG10 to receive 10% off your weekly rental!

I highly recommend trying this monitor and watching the magic happening inside your body! You’ll be fascinated.

*Thank you to Bloomlife for partnering on this post!*

I used this for my high risk twin pregnancy and absolutely LOVED it. I went on the site a few days ago and it’s unavailable. I reached out to customer service and they said it won’t be available for a few months because they are working on a new version.. totally bummed. I will have given birth by then. They should make their current version available until the new version is released. They are the only product on the market that even provides this service.
