The Autumn Girl

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

THOUGHTS
Does anyone else feel a little lighter now that the Christmas season is upon us? And don’t think about what you ate on Thanksgiving or since then. We all know our pants our tighter. I’m talking about walking with a little hop in your step. Feeling a little elation within your heart. Enchantment. ‘Tis the Season to be Jolly…Am I right? You know what I’m talking about? Okay good. Insert Charlie Brown soundtrack here _____. I know I’ve been...

Scenes from a festive Chicago :)

LIFE
Happiest of Mondays to you all! Is it really December tomorrow? Eric and I got back late last night after a wonderful weekend home in Chicago. We ate lots and had a blast catching up with family. There was lots of merriment and of course, an epic dance party at the Solberg house. Our Thanksgivings are never dull and to top of the night, my Aunt Jen did the splits on her kitchen counter. Sorry I don’t have pictures of that. BUT...

Thankful

LIFE
Happy Thanksgiving Eve everyone! E & I flying out to Chicago this afternoon to spend the holiday with my side of the family. We’ll be with his over Christmas. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, ever. It’s purely a joyous holiday spent reflecting on one’s blessings. No gifts. No angst. No worries. Just pure gratitude. Now that’s bliss. My mom is one of six and my dad is one of five. And naturally everyone happened to have many...

Candles Candles Candles

Collages•OUR HOME
Does anyone else share the same obsession I have for candles? When my Aunt was in town a few weeks ago, I kept taking the tops of my candles, getting a quick scent, and smiling as I placed them back in their appropriate shelving areas…. I. cannot. Get. Enoughhhhh. of. Candles. Seriously. Scent is a powerful trigger of memory. I associate many memories with certain scents as many of you do too, possibly without realizing it. Have you ever...

Holiday Gift Guide for Her

Collages•HOLIDAY
It’s that time of year again! Happy Monday Y’all! Only 3 days until Thanksgiving? I can’t hardly wait to head home to Chicago and spend Thursday with our big family in the burbs and then do some Christmasy things on Friday and Saturday. We’ll be crafting ornaments with my grandma Tommy who used to have an ornament business. And we’ll of course stop by the Christkindlmarket downtown & take a picture in front of the Macy’s windows. Eeeee I’m...

The Happy List Series Part II

HAPPINESS SERIES
It’s been a bit dreary lately here in Austin and when you live in a place where it is hot so often, this change is welcomed with open arms. Especially when you’re from Chicago. It feels like home. When the weather is like this, I have zero guilt being inside reading and writing. And the dogs lay by my feet as I type away and I feel at peace.  I’ve been listening to George Winston’s ‘December’ soundtrack which is...

The One Where We Went to 50 States

USA
Whenever I am meeting a new group of people and the ice breaker prompt of the ‘tell us something cool about yourself’ comes up, I always have the perfect answer- I’ve been to all 50 states! If you think about where you have been in the country, you might think that is an enormous feat, but my family got started early on this adventure. Back in the summer of 1999 when the number of children on our block under the...

My Aunt Peggy’s Butternut Squash Soup

RECIPES
The weekend flew by way too fast and I’m struggling to regain my energy today! It was so much fun to have family in town and get to spend quality time with my aunt and cousin whom I see infrequently. And it’s always great to see my mom :) As I mentioned Friday, we spent Thursday night cooking a butternut squash soup and drinking wine. Here is the amazing recipe my lovely aunt crafted! Enjoy :)

TGIF! It’s Family Weekend

Home Decor•LIFE
It’s Friday morning. My Mom & Aunt Peggy are in town. And my cousin Kristin is leaving her kids with her husband and flying down here from Boston this afternoon. Eric and I are totally flattered that everyone is making the effort to come down here. We know it’s totally JUST to see us and not explore Austin. Austin isn’t alluring, like at all ;) Last night we caught up on life, drank wine, and cooked butternut squash soup together....

The Alsace Region :) France’s best kept Secret?!

ABROAD
As I previously promised here, I am sharing our day trip from Lucerne to the Alsace Region of France. Just a short 2 1/2 hour drive from Switzerland, this quaint and gorgeous region of France was vastly different than the other locations we had visited on our honeymoon. Less tourism. Less English. Breathtaking scenery and lots of untouched land. We felt like we were stumbling along an area that other Americans hadn’t really discovered. They had, of course- we...
