Over the weekend I escaped to Scottsdale with two of my close girlfriends for a little mamas getaway. We planned it months ago without hesitation after a previous trip realizing how well we travel together! An easy peasy group.
Scottsdale is a special place to me because I attended ASU for two years and growing up, my family would visit my grandparents in Desert Mountain. I love the desert, the endless sunshine, and that feeling of escape when I go there. With beautiful January weather and a short flight from Austin, it seemed like an easy choice for a quick weekend away.
We were gone just 48 hours but made the most of every bit! The only thing we scheduled for ourselves were treatments at the spa and some dinners. I thought I’d share our simple itinerary in case you are planning a quick trip to Scottsdale and are interested in staying at the same place. We didn’t really leave our hotel so this is more of an inspiration post than guide!
We chose the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess resort because of the spa. It’s rated one of the best in the areas. We shared a suite which was fun for us because it was easier to stay on the same page and get ready together! The hotel was huge and totally gorgeous with multiple pools, beautiful sahuaro cactuses all over campus, and the golf course that hosts the famous Phoenix Open. My favorite place we dined was one of the hotel restaurants called Toro. It’s located a short distance away from the hotel with a shuttle to get you there. The sushi was great!
Saturday morning we ventured out to Camelback mountain to hike, realizing the “easier” side was closed. Soon we were moving from a leisure hike to a full on rock-climb but we made it up to the top and back down in 2 hours! It was the hardest hike I’ve ever adventured on but with two friends to giggle and sweat the way through, it was worth the climb. We were so proud of ourselves and earned our afternoon champagne by the pool.
I love trips where you have just an item or two on the calendar and the day is wide open. It really makes everything so much more relaxing and open for spontaneity! And yep, that’s the full scoop. We looved the spa and the fact we could go back the next day and enjoy a bottle of champs by the hot tub, even without a treatment that day. Our flight was just under two hours home and we were back with our kids by lunch on Sunday. It was the perfect weekend reset and I’m so glad we were able to get away with no hiccups!
