A month or so before Jack was born, Motif Medical reached out to me about trying their new portable breast pump The Luna. I was a bit hesitant only because I had a perfectly good pump I had used with my other babies, but the idea of using something portable sold me. Friends had recommended other pumps for on-the-go but many of you gave me poor reviews saying they didn’t pump enough or work as well as hospital grade ones. So I was excited when I read that 5 out of 6 moms reported that the Luna pump gave them more milk in less time than their previous pumps! I was eager to try this new product, especially given that Motif was so flexible with letting me try it out for a while before deciding if I would give a review. Now you know it was a great fit ;)
Breastfeeding is such a personal journey and one that can be a great struggle. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, each baby is a little different. I started out strong with both Charlie and McKenna who figured it out right away but Jack was a bit different. He had low glucose levels at the hospital which meant he was supplementing donor milk via bottle on day 1 of his life and experienced a bit of confusion alternating between that and breast. We ended up having to syringe feed him while I pumped all night and it was nothing short of exhausting. When it comes to this personal choice and journey in motherhood, there is nothing better than having products that make your life easier.
So let’s talk the the Motif Luna Pump. Holy game changer! I’m so excited to rave about this pump to you because I truly love it. Before the Luna, I spent so much time hooked up to a plug in my wall with the Medela. I had to disappear to go pump and now that I can move my Luna around, I can pump while watching a show or upstairs on the couch while the toddlers play. It’s battery operated and charges with a plug so you don’t need to replace any batteries. It’s got a great battery life too so you don’t have to worry about it dying on you (2+ hours! Which is quite a few pumping sessions for me). I’ve only charged it twice since I’ve had it! I was anxious about going through a new instruction manual and all the odds and ends of figuring out something new but this was so straightforward and easy.
The pump also comes with a night light built in and a quiet motor so you can pump while your little one sleeps. If I wanted to take it on a trip, it’s super lightweight to carry along at only 2 lbs. I recently brought it in my diaper bag to the park so I could pump while hanging with the toddlers while Jack stayed home with a sitter. It made my mom life of being tethered to a baby’s feeding schedule much easier because I could be out and about and still keep to my schedule. You have choices with the Luna on whether you want to use a single or double pump option. With a backlit LCD screen, you don’t have to strain your eyes while reading it. And the best part? It’s covered by insurance!
I pump every night before bed while Jack has a bottle. I’ve decided to supplement formula now and build up my frozen supply of breastmilk in hopes of prolonging that immunity I can give him after I’m done breastfeeding. We are doing the Mom’s on Call sleep schedule and I look forward to longer stretches of sleep as my baby grows. I’m so glad to have a product like the Luna to make this transition with a new baby easier and I wish I had had this pump with Charlie and McKenna!
