At the beginning of the year my friend Liz was exploring painting and it inspired me to do the same myself. I decided it was pretty much my only goal for the new year: to dedicate myself to a new outlet and just have fun.
I grew up in an art-filled home. My mom not only collects art but dabbles in a variety of mediums herself. She used to design beautiful jewelry and lately has been moving back to water colors. I grew up crafting on rainy days listening to Natalie Merchant and watercoloring and beading myself and it’s always a fond memory.
In college I took a painting class and absolutely loved it but I guess photography had my heart because I put all my time into that.
But this past January, I wanted to return to some of my old roots! So I bought a few canvases and acrylic paint and just decided to go for it and see what would happen. After visiting Santa Fe a few years ago and buying my first painting, I discovered how much I loved abstract expressionism. That was the art that inspired me most and I just started painting my favorite color palette of blues, pinks, and greens. In the past month, I’ve explored acrylic, watercolor, oils, and even glass paint! But lately my favorite has been painting champagne bottles.
I know many of you don’t get it. My own husband thinks it’s like painting a pizza box and isn’t sure why someone would ever buy it. But if you love personalized gifts and art as much as I do, this may speak to you! And plenty of people have already reached out on Instagram inquiring about it! After you drink your champagne, it’s meant to be displayed. SO, I have decided I am going to start selling these locally! So if you live in Austin and these interest you, let me know! I’ll be doing it for the next 8 ish weeks until baby arrives and then take a few month break before resuming (if I like it and it goes well!)
I compared some pricing on Etsy and based on that as well as my time and supplies, my champagne bottles will start at $100 unless you like Vueve and then it will be $125! Feel free to email me at theautumngirlblog@gmail.com to inquire more.
As for the other art, I’m just exploring and having fun with the goal of creating some pieces I love for my home. If you see something you love on my feed that I haven’t displayed in my own house, feel free to reach out to me. But I’m not taking commissions as I don’t feel I have the skillset yet or time to devote to it.
It took almost a year of quarantine/covid life to find this new outlet and what I love about it most is being able to paint with music on and zone out into a world by myself. I absolutely love blogging but it requires so much time on social media and I’ve liked taking a step back there.
However, when I log into my blog and see how many of you are still reading and clicking links, it makes me so happy. I think this Spring will be focused on pregnancy content, collages, and maybe a few recipes here and there. But also anticipate some more art!
