For Christmas I gave Eric a night away without the kids at the Commodore Perry. It’s a beautiful mansion-turned-hotel that opened up this year in Austin. Eric is the hardest person to give gifts to but he is always game for some quality time together. I picked out this hotel after a friend recommended it and it was the perfect place for a cozy staycation.

Just 15 minutes from our house, the Commodore Perry actually feels like a secret oasis that could be miles and miles away. I was blown away by the intricate detail and beauty of both the exterior grounds and interior decor. There are generally a variety of events going on but with covid, we opted to just take in the hotel and explore. It was a chilly day when we arrived, so the pool wasn’t really calling our names, and if I wasn’t pregnant, we would have split a bottle of wine and sat outside by the heaters. Instead we sat by a cozy fire inside the beautiful mansion and it made for a blissful afternoon. I sipped a mocktail while Eric enjoyed a tequila tasting and we soaked up our alone time.

We dined at the mansion and both the food and atmosphere were incredible. The restaurant is only open to guests and members of the hotel but it’s garden restaurant Lutie’s will open to the public at the end of February.

We booked massages for Sunday morning and the hotel brings masseuses to you! It was also a rare Austin morning in that we experienced SNOW! I can’t even tell you how magical it was to enjoy a massage while watching the snow flakes fall. We were supposed to have a picnic on the lawn that morning but with the wintery weather, we decided it would be better to have lunch at home.

We had a short staycation but it was totally worth it! We left feeling totally rejuvenated and relaxed and ready to embrace a snow day with our children. I can’t wait to experience this hotel again when the weather is nicer and we can enjoy more of the pool and property!
