I’m 18 weeks today! Baby is the size of an artichoke if you’re comparing to fruit or a sugar glider if you’re comparing to animals. A sugar glider is similar to a small squirrel!
This pregnancy has felt very similar to my pregnancy with McKenna. I’ve had mostly the same aches and pains and part of me wonders if this is because I’m carrying around kids or because I’m having another girl! Who knows. I’m so pumped to do a surprise this time. It just feels right.
Most of my symptoms from first trimester, especially those tougher ones like nausea and blues, have all subsided. However, I’m still so totally exhausted and I’m sure that’s due to my active lifestyle with my littles. Although I’m not running like I used to, nor getting in as many barre classes as I’d like, I feel like I spend quite a bit of time on my feet! I do my best to get outside, plan activities with my kids, and take breaks. Sometimes we watch a show after nap time and lately, a movie before bed. It’s all part of the cozy season and it helps us all unwind.
I started feeling baby kick at 17 weeks. They are just little flutters but they are a reminder of the miracle of life. I can’t wait until I can feel them from the outside and show my kids! I think baby kicks are the coolest part of pregnancy.
I think the main difference between this pregnancy and my others is that sometimes I forget I’m pregnant. I remember checking The Bump app daily with my first two and although I’m checking apps each week, it’s not something I obsess over. I have my 20 week anatomy scan coming up and once check in on baby and make sure everything is growing and as it should be, I think I’ll really start to feel good! The anatomy appointment is always my favorite.
What’s interesting about being pregnant during this pandemic is that I’ve had a “curbside” appointment. I pulled in one day with my kids in the backseat and the nurse was able to put a heartbeat monitor on my stomach and check in on baby while I sat in the front seat! It was the quickest and most efficient appointment ever. I hope they continue these after this pandemic!
I have been terrible about giving into every little craving lately and eating as a hobby instead of a way to nourish my body, but with the holidays around the corner, it’s hard not to indulge. I’m going to give myself a bit of grace and enjoy it and then focus on healthy habits again in the new year. I want to enjoy pregnancy but also take good care of myself and this baby. It’s all a balance!
Again, I cannot express how grateful I am to be a mama and carrying my third child. Motherhood is the greatest blessing. Thanks for checking in :)
