I ordered matching Christmas pajamas back in October when I first saw a sale at Hanna Andersson. The second they arrived, they have become Charlie’s favorite thing to wear daily. Whether it’s daytime or night, Charlie will ask me if I can put on his Christmas jammies and sometimes, he’ll wear them with his firefighter jacket and be “Fireman Charlie Santa” and sing Jingle Bells in the backyard. It’s quite adorable and I’m just so happy my kids get as excited about the little things like I do.
We have been reading all sorts of Holiday books, and while you may think I have totally decked out our house for Christmas, our bedroom is the only space that has decor. And it was specifically set up so we could take these photos and show you holiday jammies before they sell out! I hate skipping over Thanksgiving as much as I like to be festive! But some things have to wait.
However, holiday books do not. Whether it’s pumpkins, colored leaves, or books with snow, my kids have naturally gravitated toward all the things I like about this time of year and it’s been really fun to read together every night. My personal favorite is Thanksgiving in the Woods, which is based off a family gathering in upstate New York that has been having Thanksgiving outside in the woods for over 20 years! The imagery in the book is beautiful and a story that I know my own family would totally appreciate.
We also love Thankful and all Charlie Brown books. But a lot of Christmas books have made their way into our rotation, especially ones involving Santa. Santa’s Sleigh is On It’s Way to Chicago is such an adorable story and there are similar ones based on other cities! I love reading it as a reminder of home. And if you have children as Frozen obsessed as mine, Olaf’s Night Before Christmas is also super cute.
What are your favorite books to read to your kiddos? Do you have special memories of books you grew up with as a kid? Another personal favorite were the Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas stories but my kids are still a bit young for those. Someday we’ll add them to our list!
