Hi Friends! I’m so excited to kickstart the Holidays here on The Autumn Girl. I know once Halloween passes, many of you start thinking about your holiday card like I do! Finding the perfect outfits can be tricky. Maybe you plan on having just your kids or using a beautiful photo from earlier in the year. We have struck out with pictures of our two toddlers both smiling and looking at the camera but I’d rather have one taken closer to Christmas anyway since they grow so fast!
I know buying an adorable outfit doesn’t necessarily mean photo success, but I’m excited to have festive outfits to wear on Christmas! I am a huge fan of tartan plaid and J.Crew has so many beautiful outfits & accessories! I’m not into matchy matchy but I love the idea of a little theme and having tartan plaid accents is SO Christmasy! J.Crew is currently having a 40% off + extra 10% off so it’s the perfect time to start planning.
I think when it comes to family photos, picking out neutral pieces is key to the overall aesthetic of the photo but having a person or two with a more bold outfit is fun! You can start with the bold outfit and work around it. For example, this little girl’s red tartan plaid dress is a statement of it’s own! I found a matching bow tie for boys that would look good with a plain white collared shirt and khakis or jeans! Mom could wear a sweater dress + pearl headband and Dad could wear a collared shirt and tartan tie!
This year I’m going to see how this tartan plaid shirt works for Charlie blending in with McKenna in this adorable mixi dress! They aren’t matching plaid but I’m hoping with my simple white sweater dress + festive earrings and the tie I bought for Eric will all even out! If not, I’ll probably put Char in a sweater and red pants.
Here’s to making the most of the Holidays in 2020! Have you planned your holiday card?

We did our holiday card a few weeks ago and I shopped most of our stuff from J Crew too. We don’t usually use plaids (too many redheads) but we did a navy/pink/gray combo that I was pleased with in the end. I’ve used J Crew the last three years – CrewCuts is the best!
