I have a very energetic, spirited toddler, as many of you know, who often seems a little too clever for his own good. Whether it’s changing the wheel setting on my stroller, disassembling his shelves, or climbing up onto our counters to blow out candles or turn on various lights, his little brain is always working. While it’s often caused a bit of stress for us, it’s a skillset I know that will be awesome when he’s older. I felt inspired this morning after watching Charlie figure out how to prevent himself from getting stuck outside by configuring the deadbolt to ask you all about ways I can channel this type of creative thinking. I love seeing his little mind work and was impressed by all your wonderful ideas! You all had great ideas and many asked that I share, so here is a post with all your tips!
TOYS:
Any STEM toys!
More Magnet Blocks!
Mega Bloks (for younger toddlers)
I know some of these items aren’t suited for kids who are younger and if you also have a smaller one at home, I highly recommend keeping them occupied with something else! Often I’ll put McKenna in the high chair with something to color or play with and that way Charlie is safe to play with whatever he has without interference!
Other suggestions included building things like a bird house or crafting with little kits in the dollar section at Michael’s. One gal has her 3 year old helping feed all the animals on her farm! Some of you recall times that your parents included you when they set up shop in their garage or put something together around the house. I love all this inspiration!
I am going to go pick up a gingerbread haunted house to do with the kids from Trader Joe’s and also browse the dollar section at Michael’s today. Thanks again for your input! I hope this helps some other parents out :)
