Things in the news progressively get worse and it seems our days social distancing are here to stay for a while. We are ALL in the same boat and I think the best way to approach this is have a little fun and make some friends. SO, I wanted to do a little challenge with some lighthearted goals to make this whole thing a bit easier. There will be a unique challenge for each day and then some daily practices as well.
Go ahead and following me @theautumngirlblog on Instagram to keep up with what others are doing during the challenge and use hashtag #TAGQuarantineChallenge to participate! Whether that’s with a post or stories, who cares. Let’s just have fun.
So let’s get to it! Tomorrow, March 19, we begin!
DAY 1:
Create a daily schedule. I know this can be hard, but it really helps with productivity and feeling like the time passes. Even if you’re home with young kids, you can create a time to be upstairs, a time to be downstairs, a time to walk around the block? Having a mental schedule of the day is so helpful for me! Even if its scheduling a time to cut my kids fingernails #truestory… You don’t have to stick to it exactly! Just have a plan in place. I’ve seen some hilarious memes of toddler schedules including tantrums… give yourself a break if it doesn’t go as planned! :)
DAY 2:
Decorate for Spring! Brighten your home up. Whether it’s Easter decorations, flowers (if you have access), or something as simple as lighter towels, do something to make your space feel ready for Spring! You can even support a favorite Etsy shop by ordering some fun decor.
DAY3 :
Send snail mail! Whether it’s a card, a random thing you painted, or anything else you can put in your mailbox, send a sweet message to someone you care about… bonus points for sending me a picture of it!
There’s a nursing home in Colorado looking for snail mail for residents who are out of sorts with their isolation and lack of community get togethers and routine… any kind of card to say you are thinking of them! The kids and I are going to make some! They have 124 residents they would like to get mail to.
To: Any Resident
Hallmark Nursing Center
3701 W Radcliff Ave
Denver, CO 80236
Another great idea: send thank you notes to doctors, nurses, and medical personnel who can’t quarantine themselves and work in the front lines to keep us healthy! They are heroes!
DAY4:
Cook or create something crafty in your kitchen… Use whatever random ingredients you have! This will be fun ; Take a pic and DM on Instagram. I’ll share our fun ideas!
DAY 5:
Clean out a drawer or desk… Just do it. It will feel good to have that stuff looking pretty and accessible. De-cluttering helps relieve anxiety!
DAY6:
Work out! Do an in-home work out or take a stroll around your hood (if we aren’t restricted from that yet)… Get a little sweat session in during naptime or give yourself a short break from work!
DAY7:
Purge Your Closet! Does it fit anymore? How many times have you worn it in the last year? Put items in a pile for Good Will.
DAY 8:
ONE HOUR meditation… For me, this means reading! I know that sitting down for a whole hour without checking social media or watching TV can be daunting. Sometimes that’s all you need after a long day. But that’s replace that with a book or scrapbooking or anything that involves a little alone time and relaxation. Maybe take a bath or have a glass of wine while you do this!
DAY 9:
Do Yoga… I’ve heard Downward Dog is a fantastic app!
DAY 10:
NO SOCIAL MEDIA… There’s no way to really keep each other in check for this but this is probably one of the healthiest challenges… I have a feeling we’ll all be spending a little more time than usual on this app. I’m going to take a full break and just focus on other things that day. It’s a Friday…
DAY 11:
Order take out from your favorite restaurant… Let’s support a small biz!!!
DAY 12:
Deep Clean Bathroom. Get rid of the clutter in the drawers. Clean the toilet. Wipe the counter. DANG, it feels good!
DAY 13:
CRAFT... Ideas: Draw. Paint. Create a puzzle. Make jewelry. Knit. Create that baby book for your kiddo finally…
Another fun idea: a few years ago my cousins and I made books for our grandparents. We each included pictures and a favorite memory. They LOVED it. Such a special way to show love!!
DAY 14:
Virtual Happy Hour! Whether it’s a cocktail, a glass of wine, a soda water, juice, coffee, etc… pour yourself a little bit of love and let’s cheers each other from afar! Post a picture of what you’re sipping on and doing and let’s celebrate 2 weeks of this challenge so far!
DAY 15:
Quarantine partner makeover... Let’s have fun. Whether it’s your roommate, your boyfriend, your mom, or your two year old, let’s give each other a fun makeover. Get out the makeup or hairbrush. Can be an outfit or a costume-WHATEVER. Take pic and send for all of us to see!! (Curious how many of you are quarantined by yourself? If you are, I’m here for you! I’m thinking you do left handed or opposite hand makeover to yourself…)
DAY 16:
CAR CLEAN OUT… Get rid of that garbage. Wipe down those carseats. Vacuum that trunk!
DAY 17:
Clutter Purge… Choose a room you haven’t gotten to and purge unnecessary items. Guest bedroom? Kitchen? Office? Kids room? I’ll be getting rid of toys we don’t use.
DAY18:
Take Out Pt 2… Support another small business!
DAY 19:
DE-CLUTTER your cell… delete old text messages, unnecessary saved numbers, and transfer your favorite photos to your computer or somewhere where you can’t lose them!
DAY 20:
Treat yourself day! Home manicure? Spa night? Online purchase? Share what you did to celebrate YOU today and send me a pic! You made it through the challenge. GO YOU.
Daily Practices:
Gratitude Journal: make note of 3 things you are grateful for. Can write in a notebook. Can say in a prayer. Can write on a piece of paper and put in a box to look at later?
Keep moving. Stand every hour. Once a day see if you can get in 25 jumping jackets, 10 pushups, and 20 squats.
Drink 64 oz water a day.
Remind your quarantine buddy/buddies why you love them… It’s going to be a long 6+ weeks. Attitude is everything.
