Hello! There are so many new mamas around here and I thought I’d round up some of my favorite baby registry items today! I think registering for a baby is OVERWHELMING. The baby industry must make bank because they certainly make you feel like you need everything and when you go through it for the first time, you just don’t know, will you?!
Guess what? You don’t! All you really need in those first few weeks is a place for a baby to sleep, a carseat to get home from the hospital, diapers, a way to feed them (whether thats breastmilk or formula), and some warm clothes. The rest is all personal preference but I’d love to help you navigate that area!
So here are my top must-haves for new babies and why I love them.
- Bottles– We love Tommee Tippee! Even if you’re breastfeeding, having someone else feed your child can be a really nice break! We started feeding one breastmilk bottle a day at 2 weeks. This is different for everyone!
2. Cars seat/nursing cover- I love Copper Pearl’s prints for a car seat cover and the fact that they double as a nursing cover! I avoided nursing in public to the best of my ability, but it’s nice to have one you can just pull off your car seat if you really need it.
3. Footed sleepies– my favorite are Kickee Pants
4. A Diaper Bag! I have 3 different ones and they are all personal preference. This and this have become school bags for C & M. My Fawn Design one is so stylish, it’s become my travel bag even when I’m not with the kids! Currently on sale in the color blush with code LOVEFAWN!
5. A baby carrier– We swear by the Ergo360. It was what I used to get both my babies sleeping in those early days before scheduled naps. I could be hands free while enjoying all the snuggles and moving around my house. It’s our best piece for travel and I still use it for McKenna on the occasional grocery run (even though she’s a bit heavy). When will stores have more side by side seats for shopping with two toddlers?! Topic for another day…
6. Stroller– I think finding the perfect stroller for your family can be overwhelming at first. But just think about your lifestyle and what makes most sense. I’m a runner so I wanted a jogger and we went on consumer reports to find best one. We bought a double Bob the second time around because it was the most recommended by friends and we love it! It’s a bit heavy but hey, it doesn’t mind the bumpy trail. For travel, we use our Babyzens because they are the most light, quick-folding strollers ever!
7. Moms on Call Book– such a great resource for the first few months with a new baby! I used this method to get McKenna on a sleep schedule with Charlie.
8. Pacifiers- I swear kids choose these. Many of you would rather do without. I loved glow in the dark pacifiers with Charlie because he would drop them all night and it drove me crazy. McKenna would only take Avent. They are so cheap! I recommend just stocking up on a few different types!
9. Sleepsacks: At 3 months I transitioned my babies to these and Charlie still sleeps in the largest one to this day, ha! I don’t care about brand. I just like ones that have holes for the arms to get out!
10. Carseat- We have the Chicco Nextfit for newborn and toddler!
11. Angelcare Tub– Perforated so it doesn’t mold! Perfect for newborns until they are ready for the big bath!
12. Boppy Pillow– Sometimes you just need a safe place to lay your baby! I loved this comfy cozy pillow.
13. Swaddles– We used all sorts for our kids but my favorites were ones with velcro to keep the hands in! I had my babies sleep in short sleeve onesie underneath. On days where I couldn’t keep M’s arms from wriggling out, I’d use a Wombie over the sleepsack and ditch the onesie so she wouldn’t overheat.
14. Sound Machine- We have the Hatch and you can control the sound/color from your phone!
