Since turning 30, skincare has become a bit of a priority (and slight obsession) for me. I am kicking myself for not getting into it sooner but I think it’s just one of those things you start caring about as you get older. Over the course of the past year and a half, I’ve started exploring different products and finally have somewhat of a routine! I think figuring out what type of products you need and in which order to apply them is a bit of a process! So I thought I’d share how to figure out a skin routine so you can start setting yourself up for a great regimen.
Now I want to preface this with the fact that I’m no skincare expert. I just have tried a few things and found some products I really love! I’ve also been pregnant for the most part of the last 2 years so all of these products (**I consider) pregnancy/nursing safe!
Here are the type of products I recommend you’ll need to start your basic skincare routine!
Face wash for your skin type
Vitamin C serum
Daily Moisturizer with SPF
Night Serum/Cream!
When it comes to a face wash or daily moisturizer, I feel like any brand will do. Just make sure your moisturizer has sunscreen in it! If it doesn’t, make sure to apply after.
DAYTIME
The first part of my skincare routine begins with Vitamin C! The best product on the market I’ve heard is SkinCeuticals but I don’t currently have the budget for it. I’m using TruSkin from Amazon which is only $36 but I’m going to upgrade to Drunken Elephant here shortly when this bottle runs out. I’ve been cutting back on other expenses with the intent of investing more in my skin and health!
Vitamin C is packed with antioxidants that helps promote collagen production and firm and brighten the skin. Basically, they make your skin look and feel better! Vitamin C is also completely natural. Here is an article sharing more about Vitamin C and why it’s worth the splurge!
Next I apply my daily moisturizer! Right now I use Aveeno and it’s super cheap and does the job! I’ve also heard great things about Beauty Counter sunscreen but have yet to try it.
Another product I’ve been using and love is the brightening eye balm from Tula. I heard so many people talk about it that I had to try it for myself. What I found is that it isn’t meant to be corrective and get rid of bags under your eyes forever, but it does brighten that area and immediately begin cooling it! You notice the difference right away. And it can be worn under or over make up!
**One of the products I’ve been avoiding for a while but will start using when I’m done nursing is serum with retinol in it! I have Rodan + Fields Intensive Renewal Serum and love it. This is another key product for reducing wrinkles & fine lines!
NIGHTTIME
My new favorite night treatment is by Ahava. My sister in-law (to-be) just introduced me to this brand and I love it. I use one pump and rub my entire face with it and it feels like butter! I wake up with skin feeling moisturized and soft.
This is as simple as it gets with a night routine. I think there are a lot of other options people explore and I just haven’t gotten to it! I was using Cerave Night Cream before and I think that’s also great (and very cheap!). It was recommended by my cousin’s wife who is a dermatologist.
I haven’t really tried enough eye creams but when I find a good one for night, I’ll be sure to share.
FACE MASKS
Now let’s talk face masks! Now that staying in is the new going out (gotta loooove your thirties), I have been having so much fun doing face masks and watching movies. I was gifted a fun set from Peter Thomas Roth for Christmas and love them all. I also am now regularly using Ahava and it’s an overnight mask so I’ll rotate using that instead of the serum sometimes. It’s GOOD you guys! I promise!
I think having a girls night and trying out different face masks is soooo much fun. There are so many different options and it’s such a great way to pamper yourself.
