Hi friends! I hope you’re having a great week! We’ve been battling colds in our house and nesting in preparation for baby. I’ve felt more organized than ever lately and feel proud of myself for knocking things off my to-do list even though I’ve been exhausted.
January tends to be a slow transitional month in our house. We’re digging ourselves out of the post holiday funk and setting goals for the new year. We have less plans on the calendar and a lot more time spent bundled up indoors. The weather generally isn’t great and sometimes the month can be bit depressing if we don’t try and make the most of it.
It takes me a long time to get in the swing of winter and a new year. I find that getting to-do lists written, plans on the calendar, and out of the house really lighten my mood. I thought I’d share 6 ways I make the most of winter today and hopefully give you some inspiration to do the same!
DEEP CLEAN & REORGANIZE
Let me tell you, cleaning up and cleaning out feels GOOD. I just cleaned out our kitchen pantry and I can’t even explain how amazing it feels to look in our cabinet and know exactly where everything is. I also know that nothing left is expired (now that I’ve checked everything!). I moved on to our closet and donated a TON of old clothes, picture frames, and items we don’t need, and it felt so refreshing to get rid of stuff and look at an organized space. I urge you to do the same… you won’t regret it!
SET GOALS
A New Year doesn’t mean you have to always have resolutions for how to be better. Sometimes just setting simple goals for yourself is a great way to hit refresh. Whether its drink x amount of water every day or spend less time on your phone, creating simple tasks for yourself that you can actually accomplish is totally worth it. Eric and I like to do some together and envision plans for our family. It feels good to have shared goals and be on the same page!
PLAN A FEW OUTINGS
I booked our babysitter for every weekend in January knowing that even if I felt lazy and called to the couch, getting out for social plans or a date night is much needed. Especially since we’ll be super busy and exhausted the next few months!
MEAL PREP
I love planning meals ahead of time! Knowing what we’re eating for the week and making a list for the grocery store and getting alll the right things makes us feel healthy and balanced over here. Meal prep for C is requires more thought than I imagined so it’s nice to have a plan for the week.
PLAN A VACATION
We’re already discussing the fall trip we want to do this year. Nothing is in the works yet but just having an idea of getting away together really makes us excited. We love knowing that we can still do the fun things we did before having kids. And everybody needs a break and vacation once in a while!
GET OUTSIDE
Winter tends to make us sleepy and want to curl up and stay indoors forever. It’s hard to find any motivation to get outside, especially if the weather is gloomy. With a young toddler, it feels torturous to be stuck inside. Even on chilly days, I bundle him up extra good and we just walk if we have to. Bonus if we get ourselves to the park! It’s the best. I know we have better winters here in Austin than in other cities but I find that ANY way to get outside is so good for the soul.
