I’m 37 weeks today and I’ve got my hospital bag ready to go! I can’t wait to meet our little girl very soon.
When I was pregnant with Charlie, I did not share a post with my hospital bag packing list. It was my first child and I had no idea what I was doing. I forgot so many things anyway and Eric had to run home and get them later. Luckily, we lived only 10 minutes from the hospital so it was no big deal.
I thought it would be super helpful to share what I’m packing this time since it’s my second go around and I have some favorite things we added. I have a list of most important things like an outfit for the baby and a phone charger and something to wear home from the hospital for me, but I also packed a few things (that definitely don’t fit in a diaper bag) that I had Eric bring me last time that made my stay so much more comfortable. Those included a big cozy blanket, pillow from home, and camera!
Here is what I packed in my bag for both baby and me:
2 outfits for baby in different sizes: newborn & 0-3 months! I actually even brought a preemie outfit in case she is smaller than expected. Charlie was swimming in his newborn clothes for the first few weeks.
Pacifiers (I used one the second night per nurses suggestion because Charlie was just doing the sucking motion over and over again). My favorite are glow in the dark so they are easy to find! Also love these by Advent.
Cozy Slippers + Pajamas (I’m obsessed with these pjs I just bought- so SOFT) Also love the color for pictures ;)
Nursing bra + nipple butter. Nursing bra is a must. Nipple butter might not be necessary until you’ve nursed for a week or so and your body starts adjusting. I just like to have it in case.
Outfit to wear home- highly suggest maternity leggings & a loose top!
Toiletries- they’ll have some for you but I always like bringing my own!
Books/Games/Sudoku- you may have a little downtime like I did. Even if you’ve got too much on your mind to get into a book, I suggest bringing something to do like a crossword or sudoku!
A lot of people pack snacks but I don’t mind the hospital food and Eric was able to slip out a few times to bring some meals to me! This one is totally up to you.
I am packing a baby blanket + doll simply for pictures! You don’t need either but I tend to stage things and have a little fun :)
The hospital will provide you with SO many things including pads, diapers, wipes, mesh underwear- etc. Take it all HOME! It’s for YOU!

Lots of people suggest a robe or gown because easier than pants when nurses always checking on you. You’ve already been through this once, so I guess you think shorts are still good option? Thanks!

Hi Carly! I wore a robe last time but WITH pajama pants. I just think having shorts will be more comfortable (or pj pants- since it’s Austin, it could be warm). Nurses will still be able to check on you! I just felt more comfortable wearing bottoms for when I got up myself and also for having visitors! The same pjs I got are also available in long sleeve/pants :)
