My favorite space in our entire home is our bedroom. It’s my sanctuary. It’s where I get sound sleep and read before bed. It’s the room that fills with golden light first thing in the morning. It’s simple with white bedding and dark furniture and a space that is accented with color by decor.
I have always loved my bedroom. It was my own personal space growing up and one that I prioritize decorating. When Eric and I got married, I was excited to upgrade our mattress and bedding and purchase a king bed. I covet my sleep and knowing that we spend so much of our lives resting, I wanted to invest in a quality bed.
We purchased all our bedroom furniture (including our mirror over our dresser!) from a local store called Four Hands Furniture. Our bedding is Pottery Barn and William Sonoma. We originally bought a tempurpedic mattress but found it wasn’t a great fit for us. We actually got our current mattress from Costco and we LOVE it!
When we moved into our new house, we kicked the dogs out of our bed and it was easier for me to convince Eric to get white bedding. He was a little skeptical but the texture of the Matelasse covers helps us dust off dirt easier. It’s gotten dirty a few times but has been so easy to clean. And I just love the way it looks! We originally had a quilt but it was super thin and I was always pulling extra blankets into the bed to get a little more weight on me. I was excited to get a duvet again and have a heavier bedspread. We have been so happy with our bedding!
One of the harder parts of decorating a home is finding art. Wouldn’t you agree? It’s not something you can really search for unless you have a vision. For me, I have to see something in person and feel a connection with it. When Eric and I went to Santa Barbara on our babymoon, we discovered these ginger jar lamps and knew that we had to come home with them. And they would forever be a token of our special trip. They were originally in our living room but when we moved into our new house, we moved them to our bedroom. And we found the perfect lumbar pillow to match! Our framed floral print above our bed is from Anthropologie and is meant to hang the other way. But we loved it horizontal over our bed! I saw it in store and fell in love with it and after looking it up online, discovered Anthro has SO many gorgeous pieces of art! I highly suggest checking them out if you’re in the market :)
Another favorite accent in our room is our cozy rug. The quality is unbeatable and we actually got it on major sale at the outlets. It just adds an extra element of warmth to our room.
Often when moving into a new home, we can feel rushed to have every room completed quickly. But I’ve found that it’s important to take our time and get used to each new element as it is added. Our bedroom took months and we finally finished it in December. The only thing I can see us adding is a paint color. But for now, we love our cozy space.
