Over the weekend I cleaned out my closet and swapped out some of my sweaters for lighter layers. It always feels good to do a little spring cleaning but the best part of organizing my clothes was re-discovering clothes I’ve bought over the years that I’m excited to wear again. Those are the investment pieces worth buying: things that stand the test of time. A few of my favorites? Overall shorts, a denim dress, fun open toe booties, simple cardigans, and some basic tees.
I don’t know about you, but my style has changed a lot over the years. I’m still a dress girl through and through but really, I feel the most myself in just a basic tee and jeans. Things that can create multiple outfits. Outfits that can be spiced up with a necklace or a neckerchief and a fun pair of shoes. I’ve found less interest in the statement outfits that you wear once and never again and have found more pleasure in my casual style. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom. Maybe it’s because I’m not going anywhere fancy anytime soon. Either way, I have gravitated into a more classic, feminine style that I can wear every day and I love it.
To be perfectly transparent, when I first got into this space, I felt like I was buying clothes for the blog and not for me. I was all over the place with my style and not sure what I was doing. It sounds really silly but I bought what I thought other people liked instead of what I liked and ended up spending a lot of money on things I didn’t care about. Dumb, right? Over time, I really got comfortable in my own skin and decided it was worth it to buy things I LOVE and BE ME and it’s been liberating. Anyway, expect to see some posts coming up soon with clothing that you’ve already seen that I’m wearing again (and in a different way!).
The best purchase I made in 2018 were my Rag & Bone jeans. I know I’ve raved about them before, but finally I’ve found a pair of denim that is super comfortable and fits my body. I wear them with everything and am considering getting a second pair for when I totally wear these through…
I’m so excited about this simple lace tee that makes an outfit by itself. It’s cotton and effortless and makes me feel so feminine. It’s not an every day top, but its a fun one for spring and I’m excited to wear it with statement earrings for a date night. It also comes in black and would look so cute with a straw bag and flats. Can you tell I love matching?
If you haven’t already, I urge you to clean up your closet a bit. Even if it’s still cold where you are, shuffling some of those lighter colors and layers to the top of your drawers and front of your closet will make you feel so good.
Special thanks to my friend Janna for snapping these photos!
