Over the past year and a half, I have started playing golf again and even have become a bit smitten with the sport. I took lessons one summer in elementary school but quickly got bored with it. I have always been someone who wants instant success and I didn’t feel like working at the sport. But many years later, my mom started playing and I decided why not hit a few balls again? Once I broke through that frustrating inability to drive a ball and started executing regularly, I found myself anxious to get back on the course and practicing. Every success became a reason to get back out there again. I have a new set of clubs and a desire to keep getting better. I’m at the point where I no longer want to be wearing my short khaki shorts and borrowed golf shirt from my mom. I’m ready for actual golf attire. However, when I have showed up to the local golf courses in Austin and browsed their pro shops, I have been very disappointed with the lack of women’s golf gear.

Golf has historically been a men’s sport with more women than ever now joining the game (41% of newcomers are women for reference). I’m so excited! As my parent’s always remind us: golf is a lifelong sport. You’ll play it in years to come. I’ve found myself connecting with friends and family in new ways on the golf course. We have tournaments at our family reunions and my sisters are in a women’s league in Chicago so when I visit home, I get excited to hit balls with them.
