When I think of the 4th of July, fireworks & sparklers, the aroma of burgers on the grill, and a million childhood memories of races at the village green immediately come to mind. Growing up, our family participated in the township relays and events and though we may have not have won too many first place ribbons, the real win was spending quality family time competing together and cheering each other on. We always dressed up in red, white, and blue and followed the parade with our bikes in our patriotic colors. We’d honor a moment of silence as local officers shared stories and gave thanks to our men and women serving our country. And we’d wait for the blow of a horn to signal the commencing of our races.
Yes, the 4th of July has always been a favorite holiday of mine. Though summer technically starts in June, the 4th symbolizes summer in so many ways. I think what I love so much about this stress-free holiday is that it focuses on uniting and celebrating our country. I love the explosion of beautiful lights blazing and dancing across the sky as fireworks all over our nation are launched to symbolize freedom. It’s purely about celebrating our country.
Can you believe 4th of July is just around the corner? We are flying to Hilton Head next Wednesday and will be celebrating the holiday with my grandparents, dad, and two sisters. I try to visit my grandparents every year but sometimes, its every other year. I love being on the island, enjoying fish on their screened in porch, and sipping a cocktail at the Tiki Bar on the beach. It’s so fun :)
I’m already thinking about my packing list, of course. I have a fun American Flag sweater but I’m not sure how I’ll wear it in the heat. Maybe it will be a nighttime ensemble ;) There are many different festive finds I discovered while browsing patriotic clothing and I must say, stripes say the 4th like no other outfit. But I love a holiday that’s so easy to dress for! Red- white- and/OR blue! You have choices guys! I love to mix and match… Often I’ll choose a bold red top to pair with white shorts or pants. I wear blue so often it doesn’t feel festive unless I’ve got something red to wear with it. I’ve linked a bunch of fun finds below.
Enjoy your weekend! We’re home and I’m excited to hang low and enjoy Austin!
