Ah. The coffee table. The centerpiece of your living room. The perfect foot rest while you post up with a good movie. The spot where you place your cup of water. Or your glass of wine. The center to your favorite room… A coffee table is often left blank and put to use for storage of old magazines, used cups, and all those remote controls. But if styled nicely, a coffee table can add a beautiful touch to your interior.
Here are the things you’ll need to style your coffee table:
A Tray: Ironically, the first image I’ve shown you doesn’t contain this, but a tray is something essential to keeping your coffee table organized and condensed. There are many options for trays but I’m loving this wicker basket and mirror tray. We have a rectangular woven one we bought last year that fits into our more rustic abode.
A Plant: Flowers or Succulents make for great decoration on your coffee table. I would pick one or the other. If you’re local to Austin, I recommend checking out East Austin Succulents. They have quite a variety of plants and are a fun place to visit! I also love mason jar flowers. I often pick up a miniature mixed bouquet from Whole Foods but lately I’ve been loving tulips. If you don’t like to routinely buy flowers, I suggest buying some fake ones. If you choose wisely, you can’t tell the difference! I would check out Home Goods. They have a fun selection :)
Coasters: Protect that wood! You’re likely to have a beverage of water while enjoying your favorite show or hosting guests, so make sure you have coasters handy on your coffee table. I love coasters because they are small but can be a perfect decorative piece. These French Chefs Rattan Coasters give your place a more rustic feel while these Michael Aram give it a bit of sophistication. I also love a pop of color and these Anthropologie coasters add some edge to your decor.
Books: Have a favorite read? Mine’s Harry Potter, no surprise. I happen to have the illustrated edition of the first book and it’s excellent decor for the coffee table. I think books might be the #1 way to make your table look sophisticated and provide reading material for those lazy days posted up on the couch. You can make a stack of a few, but really, you don’t need much more than 3.
Candles: What says cozy ambiance better than a scented candle? My favorites are Aloha Orchid, Nest Sea Salt, and Vanilla Diptyque. Not only do they all smell heavenly, but they come in decorative jars and tins (even ones that can be turned into vases!)… we’re talking about aesthetics here, am I right?!
Something You Love: Whether it be a vase of pinecones like the ones I have on my coffee table or these cool Pineapple Jars that seem to be trending, find one decorative piece that speaks to you. It can be small. It can be tall. It doesn’t matter- although I will mention if your flower vase or plant isn’t tall, I would find something that is to break up the height on your table. It adds to the look, I promise :) Whether its a candle in a vase or a funky item such as a paper weight. Why not?! Also, how amazing are these Ginger Blue China jars? NEED. You can find gorgeous and cheaper versions right here and here :)
