I have always been a proponent of keeping your body in motion to stay fit and healthy. And with Austin’s picture perfect spring, I find there is rarely an excuse these days for me not to be exercising. I wrote 6 ways to healthier you a couple of months ago and my siblings read it and pooled their cash and bought me a Fitbit for my birthday! I LOVE IT. It keeps me counting. Keeps me accountable. Keeps me wanting to do more.
It’s actually kind of difficult for me to be sitting here on the computer typing because I need to be out there. Doing things. Taking advantage. Pretty soon it will be too hot to run. But a thunderstorm rolled through last night and it’s wet and rainy. So an excuse to sit here and type is welcome :)
If you’re someone who struggles with exercise, I want you to ask yourself what gets you motivated. Is it a stellar new song you can’t stop listening to? Is it cute kicks or yoga pants that get you to the gym? Or maybe a picture of yourself you love and want to get back to? Are you trying to stay fit and healthy for your family? Whatever it is, own it. Make it work for you.
I also want you to think about what holds you back from working out. Is it the weather? Is it your lack of time? Your energy levels? You must find a way to battle your excuses with your motivations.
Here are my favorite exercise routines:
- Running Outside. It’s free. You can be your own boss. You can run at your own pace. What makes me more motivated than anything is a solid playlist. Usually a new song on the radio I’m obsessing over gets me hitting that pavement. Currently: Ellie Goulding’s “Something in the Way You Move”
- Walking the dogs. I’ve just started a route that is 4 miles and though it takes me a bit of time, I love the views of the city when I walk the boys down to Zilker Park. Plus they are exhausted when I get home and the little one isn’t running around eating any more shoes or paper or whatever he can get his snout into.
- MOD FITNESS. I joined a year ago and I cannot get enough! For those of you who don’t live in Austin, this is a fitness class comparable to bar method. I love this class because I work against my own body weight and have strengthened and toned my muscles. Each instructor is a bit different so I always leave there feeling like I got a fabulous work out with various technique.
I love the combo of my walking, classes, and running outside. I feel like I’m getting my heart going and toning at the same time. It’s going to be really hard to keep this going this summer, so I’m doing my best to get something in every day now. I’ll have to transition to morning workouts in a few months, but until then, onward!
This summer I’m eager to do a few spin classes. My Aunt owns a spin studio back home called Spynergy, so I’ve been spinning quite a few times. It’s one of my favorite forms of exercise! I just haven’t done it yet since I’ve lived in Austin.
I also love cute work out clothes… You’ll notice I’ve linked a lot of Under Armour. I LOVE Under Armour. Fairly priced & excellent quality. Enjoy!
