Over the weekend, E & I co-hosted a Wine Tasting with another couple from Church. We invited our Sunday School class and had a turn out of about 30 people. It was SO much fun and we can’t wait to host more parties at our home!
There are multiple ways to host a wine party, but with a large group of people with varying wine interests, we made it as simple as we could. Bring 2 of the same bottle of your favorite $20 and under red or white wine and prepare to channel your inner sommelier.
Upon arrival, we stuffed the bottles into bags that were labeled A-Z. Couple A would have two bags for their wine and so on… We had a master list for the hosts to identify whose wine was whose and had a tally chart on the fridge for people to vote for their top two. Because we did both red & white wines, we decided we would have two winners. Everyone received a score card labeled A-Z so they could take notes about each wine as they tasted them.
You might think 26 bottles is a lot to taste and you are totally right. We didn’t end up having that many. I think we tasted about 15. Either way, it is totally doable if you are pouring super small pours. After about 2 hours into the party, we were ready to vote!
When you’re hosting a wine tasting, it is important to have ample hor d’oeuvres and snacks. Our co-hosts are party planning champs and brought a delicious chocolate fountain, fruit, meat, cheese, crackers, olives, hummus- every little thing you could possibly think of to snack on while tasting wine. DELISH. Eric made his famous bacon wrapped dates. Success. YES.
If you’re more serious about your wine selection and want to do a tasting with a smaller group of people, the best way is to ask your guests to all bring the same type of bottle (and maybe just one ;) ). If you like pinots, try a few bottles of that! When I did a Pinot tasting at home, we would mark 1-5 on our scorecards, 5 being the highest rating. And voila, done!
Here was the bottle with the most votes:
I think wine tastings are so much fun and such a great way to chat and get together with people. We had the best time with the best group and are looking forward to more social events in the future!
