I’m excited to have a tab dedicated to thoughts & musings. I love writing but I also love reading. Among the many books, poems, quotes, and things I have read, I have noted words & thoughts that resonate with me. Though I try to document my thoughts often, I find that I am a work in progress. I am always looking to improve my writing. I wish I had a more vast vocabulary but that’s what continual reading is for ;) Learning. Here is a page dedicated to sharing my favorite words, thoughts, & musings.
One fantastic wedding gift we received last year was a gift certificate from our “foodie” friends to Barley Swine in Austin. Eric and I *almost consider ourselves foodies as well (we love trying new restaurants and exotic foods), but our pals in Ohio are on a different level. Needless to say, we were pumped about their gift.
Barley Swine is located off of South Lamar. It’s a small little restaurant and we highly recommend making a reservation in advance. It’s pretty expensive, so we also recommend that you consider a special occasion before dining here. Just to make it extra special ;)
Eric and I went over Easter weekend this year. The food was exceptional. Barley Swine is set up as a prixe fix menu including 12 courses. We decided to include the wine pairing with our experience. We think it made it worlds better.
It’s hard to describe the ecstasy your taste buds experience after a beet trifle with grilled mushroom and blue cheese cookie. The combinations and ingredients they used were strange and insanely awesome. They’re even accommodating to a wide range of allergies, so long as you let them know in advance.
I cannot wait to find an excuse to return to this restaurant. It may or may not still be my favorite here in Austin ;)
Eric and I spent the weekend in Kansas City, Missouri where we got to see Eric’s grandfather and catch up with his family. His parents, brother, sister, & nephew all made the trip, so it was extra special. We don’t get to see each other very often, and especially with a little one, a lot changes in a year. Eric was very eager to see his nephew who is also his God Son. We spent Saturday with his immediate family and caught up with some of his extended family at a barbecue Saturday night. I brought my camera and took the opportunity to snap some shots of the family. I’m excited to share them with you! I love little pics. They are so special. Here are some highlights from the weekend!
It’s October 1st. The first day of my favorite month of the entire year. The cool crisp mornings and excuse to wear sweaters is only a drop in the bucket of the awe and wonder of the fall season. Pumpkin spiced everything, sunflowers at the farmer’s market, the array of color in the trees as the leaves change- I can’t pick a favorite moment. I love the smell of a campfire and the scent of a spiced candle. I love the countdown to Halloween and the crunching of leaves under my boots as I meander home.
It’s our first official fall season as newcomers to Austin. We were here last year but missed most of October due to our wedding and honeymoon, so I don’t think it counts. We got to experience the cooler weather and changing temperatures while traveling in Europe, and this will be the first time we see how October pans out in Austin. We have been told to not get too excited. It’s still hot here. And although I know I’ll miss the vast colors of bright maples and oaks, I’ll savor the short weekend in November when the leaves wilt into reds and browns here in Texas. And I’ll document thoroughly ;)
Eric and I used to blast Frank Sinatra as we drove down Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. We felt like old timers in a big city. And we’d dine at fun restaurant, drink red wine, and plan the future. I loved it.
But one thing that never changes, no matter where I’m located, is my love for the flannels, booties, hats, and jeans that define fall fashion.
Welcome back denim, flannels, and plaid! I cannot get enough of you. I find myself purchasing more with each returning season and I still have not tired from the trend. I love being warm and cozy (and cute) and these shirts offer an opportunity for all.
I have bought my shirts from many different places. I love the flannels at Nordstrom. I have also made purchases at J Crew & Loft. And also Urban Outfitters. I recently stumbled into Evereve, formally “Hot Mama” and am bumming hard that there isn’t one located in Austin. I loved everything in the store. It’s probably a good thing- I can see myself venturing in there on too regular of a basis come Autumn season… Can’t help myself.
So here I am, sitting in the AC in my red flannel and reminiscing of past falls, pandora playing in the background as I admire my pumpkin spiced candle. Cuddled up in my little world until the outside one follows suit ;)
