Today I’m sharing a little bit about my “Tribe” – my #RideorDies
Ride or Dies? Whaaaaaa? If you have no idea what I am talking about, I suggest you read Shonda Rhimes‘ book Year of Yes. (Thanks for the recommendation, Anj!) You’ll laugh out loud plenty of times. And then you’ll reflect on your own life. I love a book that combos humor with self-awareness. I found a lot of inspiration through Shonda’s words. And I also felt like I was hearing many of her various TV characters speak (ie Olivia Pope) because Shonda has a specific voice and a way with words. Emotionally charged, thoughtful, and relatable…
“People I love, people I have known for years and years. The people for whom I would do anything.
My people. My posse. My tribe.
My Bonnies and My Clydes.
My Ride or Die List.
A Ride or Die list is no joke”
So when I say ‘tribe’, I’m copying Shonda and referring to my people. The ones in my corner rooting for me through thick and thin. The core of my existence. My family. My friends. My husband. My crew. I know I’ve mentioned a lot of things and moments that make me happy, but there is no comparison to the happiness found with friendship & family.
It’s kind of crazy to think that I’m one of 27 grandchildren on my mom’s side and one of 19 on my dad’s. Not only does everyone admire and get along with one another, but we LOVE getting together! I’ve had family reunions every couple of years for my entire life. And I couldn’t be more thankful. A good portion of family lives in Chicago but many more live all over the country. We’ve had many weddings recently and it has been the best reason to get together! Here’s a picture of quite a few cousins at my cousin Ellie’s wedding :)
Solid crew, eh?
I’ve got a few other #RideorDies that make life sweet. The husband. The siblings. The best friends. The parents. The In-laws. The Grandparents…
I’ve realized that as I get older, life only gets busier. So the best way to stay connected to everyone is to plan visits and reunions, which luckily, I’m pretty good at planning :) And if that isn’t possible, we must make phone calls. Send text messages. Say hello.
Eric and I attended 7 weddings last year, 4 of which were weddings of my dear friends, and 3 that were family. We had great excuses to see people and reunite.
And this year? We’ve planned some reunions. I’M SO EXCITED.
I just wanted to share a little bit about family and friendship today. That’s all.
So Cheers to you, Ride or Dies. I love you so. Thanks for being who you are. For being in my corner. And for supporting me on this blogging journey.
Today is dedicated to You.
