2016 is rapidly approaching and with the New Year shining brightly ahead comes an opportunity for a fresh start. I usually fall into a little slump the week after Christmas as I’m sure many do, slightly depressed that my favorite holiday has passed and I have to wait 365 days for it to return again. So much excitement and momentum built up! And then swoosh. It always goes by too fast.
But January brings me energy again. Energy to improve, grow, change, refresh. Energy to be a new and better ME.
I think about my resolutions every year and though I think I’ve done a good job following them, there’s always something else that can be made better. I always include some form of health and fitness into my resolutions (I love these things) but I think it’s important to focus on non-physical goals in 2016.
This year I have three specific resolutions. Things I believe aren’t too hard to accomplish and will have a profound effect in my every day life.
- Drop the Sailor’s mouth. HOLY COW, MARGE. Unacceptable. I drop profanity so casually, it’s disgusting. One idea to change this habit: Substitution words…. Holy shoes! Gosh, donut. I don’t give a freckle! (thank you, Jenna Whitecar) Maybe if I say silly things that sound so ridiculous (specifically the donut one), I’ll stop saying them altogether.
- I would like to wake up each morning and go to bed each night without having social media being the first or last thing I check. Now that I use it to promote this blog and receive constant feedback and statistics, I feel I’ve become practically obsessed. And it’s totally not healthy. I’m going to substitute the kindle for the phone before I fall into a slumber. Get wrapped up in a story and let my imagination flow :)
- Focus on marriage. Our marriage is the most important thing to me and has been a priority for us. But I want to make it THE priority. Above all else. This year Eric will be traveling a lot more for his job and we’re going to have to work harder to be on the same page and be there for one another. People always say to ‘go the extra mile’ but I want to make that a reality. Little surprises. A listening ear. More of those head scratches I’m really not excited about giving but are always received well!
So there you have it. Simple yet important goals. My magnificent three! What are you resolving in 2016?
